Growing up, Christmas was a family gathering where we would gather at my aunt’s house for a potluck party. Since moving here to the US, Christmas for the most part is a day to unwind and have some “me time.” (preferably with some egg nog, of course!) This week’s What to Wear Where got me thinking about Christmas tradition. Since I don’t really have one, I decided to start one – wearing a gifted item to celebrate Christmas. Christmas for me as a non-Christian has always been appreciating the wonderful people that I have in my life. To show my love and appreciation, I think it’s only apt that I don gifts that I have received as part of my Christmas tradition.
Come this Christmas day, I’ll be home in this cozy outfit that consists of gifts that I’ve received throughout my life.
I wore this outfit some weekends ago to run errands and just realized that I didn’t get around to posting it. I absolutely love this H&M sweater and it’s the only piece of clothing I’ve bought during my clothing ban to replace an older sweater. I had a coupon and scored it for only $9! It is made of 90% acrylic (yes, I know it’s material to be avoided but I plan on dry cleaning it) and 10% mohair and definitely keeps me warm and cozy!
Sweater: H&M 2012
Vest: DKNY F/W 2006
Jeans: J Brand Mid-Rise 805 Straight Leg in Ink (similar)
It’s much warmer today, or rather the weather is more apt of Fall with a high of mid-60s. Thus, a lighter coat and since it’s a Federal holiday – Veteran’s Day – I’m wearing jeans to work on a Monday! (I work for a government contractor, so Federal holiday = no clients)
I usually pair this top and scarf together as a go-to outfit but decided to add the argyle vest into the mix and mix prints together. Since it’s all different shades of purple, I think it worked out pretty well. That or maybe I’m biased!
I centered this outfit around the teal wool cape-like vest sweater that my sister bought for me. (Cape = fly, thus the title of my post, get it?) My lovely sister has a habit of buying clothes for me and she gave this to me during her visit recently. (The last time I went home, she had a stack of clothes that she bought just for me from all her travels. Do I have the best sister or what?!)
While I might not have purchased this for myself (I tend to shy-away from trends), I enjoy pairing it with what I have and have paired it with multiple outfits in the past week! I love the buckle on the neck which lends an equestrian style to it and teal compliments my skin tone well. This has quickly become a favorite item for me this Fall (which feels very much like Winter already!) and I foresee myself wearing it a lot!
Do you have any cape-like garments in your wardrobe? How do you style them?
